Ok, I may be a little late to the game, but I just had to share it with you all, in case you hadn’t heard the buzz surrounding Pantone’s new wedding color of the year. Designers, photographers, event planners, and interior designers alike are kind of freaking out about it! The color is of the year is… drumroll please… greenery!

So how did they do it – how did they come up with this lush shade of green and deem it appropriate for all things wedding?

“Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose,” Pantone’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, explains. “This is the color of hopefulness, and of our connection to nature… Every spring we enter a new cycle and new shoots come from the ground. It is something life-affirming to look forward to.”

So what does this mean for you, the bride? Well, everything! This lush shade of green can be used in a number of different ways throughout your big day including bouquets, bridesmaids dresses, table runners, and invitations!  Whether you use it to adorn your ceremony in greens or choose to incorporate it in the little details, “greenery” is going to be the perfect addition to not only your spring and summer wedding, but fall, too! But hold back your applause until the end, folks, because I’m just getting started! I’ve got some great ideas and I’m going to share them all with you!

WEDDING STYLE

No decisions can be made until you have chosen your color palate and the direction you want to go with your wedding style. There are a number of different ways people might describe their style – modern, vintage, elegant, rust, etc. Here are a few wedding styles that would be fitting for the 2017 pantone color of the year:

  • Summer Garden Party – an outdoor seating area, a signature cocktail and a head table draped in lush greenery.
  • Watercolor – Ok, pastel watercolor hues and greenery details may be my favorite color palate. Need I say more?
  • Modern Elegance – think clean white walls, growing vines on the wall and a garland draped from the chandeliers. Swoon.

COLOR SCHEMES

If you couldn’t tell already, I’m more than excited for this year’s wedding color! So, naturally, I put a few color swatches together.

BOUQUETS

Instead of a more traditional bouquet, opt for an all-greenery bouquet. There are so many options for greens that can put into a bouquet, and they’re often much less expensive than traditional bouquets.

This option also adds a nice bright and organic pop of color without being too distracting or obtrusive. It’s also easy and simple to match the boutonnieres to a greenery bouquet, too, so that’s another win in the books.

DECOR

I’ve already seen some compilations of décor ideas and I am in love with the use of green plants all over the place. You can use greenery as table runners, cake embellishments, aisle runners, chair décor, flower girl crowns, and favors. You can even use leaves as seating assignments.

INVITES

There are so many gorgeous options for greenery-inspired wedding invites, from watercolor options to options with tiny little greenery details. Here’s a list of some of my favorites (with links):

Maria, owner of Jolie & Co. has designed some of the the most delicate invitation suites I have ever seen.

BRIDAL PARTY

You can make use of gorgeous greenery crowns or headbands, a pop of green in the shoes, or green dresses for the bridesmaids. The groomsmen can use green ties, pocket squares, or boutonnieres. Do as much or as little as you’d like.

So what’s so great about this color? It’s versatility. You can use it during the obvious spring and summer months, but small tweaks will make it perfect for fall and winter weddings as well.

Let me know how you plan to use Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017 in your wedding. I’d love to see pictures if you have any to share.
